Intuniv, also known as Guanfacine, is an oral medicine that is used to cure attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD in children above six years of age. Intuniv relaxes the blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. It is available in the form of a long-acting tablet and decreases the nerve impulses in the blood vessels and heart. Intuniv is also used to treat hypertension and should be taken once daily to be effective. Intuniv is also used as a part of combination therapy and is taken with other blood pressure medicines. Intuniv works by affecting nerve receptors in certain parts of the brain, reducing distraction, improving impulse control and attention, and enhancing working memory.
