Imodium (Loperamide) Side Effects, Important Info, Before Taking & More

Imodium is a medicine that is used to treat diarrhea due to a variety of different conditions. Diarrhea is the excretion of very watery stools. It is often accompanied by an increased need to use the bathroom. Imodium may also help treat traveler’s diarrhea and on-going diarrhea due to inflammatory bowel disease. This drug may also be used by patients who have recently undergone an ileostomy (this is a medical procedure that involves re-routing the bowel by making a surgical opening in the stomach) and helps to reduce the amount of discharge. The most active ingredient of Imodium is loperamide. This medicine may only help with controlling the symptoms of diarrhea and not cure the disease itself that might have been caused by an infection.
